Garden transformations for East Molesey gardens

Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas, with some larger period houses on the roads towards Hampton Court and pockets of interwar and later housing behind them. Gardens tend to be modest in width and the boundaries are close, so fencing and screening usually form part of the job.

East Molesey is minutes from our yard across the river, so it is one of the areas where we can get a crew back the same week if something needs a second look.

The build

How we build it, East Molesey or anywhere else

A whole garden rebuild is mostly a logistics job: getting plant and materials in, getting spoil out, and keeping the house liveable while it happens. We work that out on the first visit and price it in.

The sequence of a garden renovation is always the same. Clearance and groundworks, then structure and paving, then planting, turf and lighting.

  • Design stage with survey, scaled plan and 3D visual
  • Full clearance and removal of everything coming out
  • Drainage resolved before the paving goes down
  • Retaining walls, steps and brickwork by our own bricklayers
  • Terrace, paths and structures on proper sub-bases
  • Topsoil, planting, turf and lighting
  • Handover walk with a maintenance schedule

Price guide

£15,000 to £40,000+ for most East Molesey projects

Most whole garden schemes we build sit between £15,000 and £40,000. Level changes, retaining structures and access are what move it. Smaller courtyard rebuilds come in under that; large plots with garden rooms and extensive planting run above it.

Access is the local variable. Where everything has to come through the house or over the back, the labour goes up, and we say so in the quote rather than discovering it in week one.

The full detail on materials, build-up and what a quote covers is on our full garden transformations page.

Completed gravel driveway and sandstone path with new boundary fencing at an East Molesey home

Tired cracked paving lifted from the front of a 1930s East Molesey house and replaced with a frontage designed from scratch: a decorative gravel driveway, a sandstone stepping path to the door and a curved rendered planter.

Working in East Molesey

How we get materials in

We plan the barrow route and delivery schedule on the first visit, so the excavation stage runs smoothly. Side passages on terraced and semi-detached streets are workable, and the roads near Hampton Court have limited parking that we simply factor into the plan.

Permits and deliveries

Skip and hoarding permits from Elmbridge Borough Council are handled before the first day. Near Hampton Court we often book a grab lorry instead of a standing skip to avoid parking pressure.

  • Of the 3 companies I asked to quote, Hayden was the only one who came to look at the garden. He was able to suggest ideas to maximise the appearance of the raised beds. I am very happy with the results, which were done on time and at the agreed price.

  • HD landscape did a great job on my garden re-work! firstly, they listened to my needs much more attentively than any other company quoting for the work.

FAQs

Garden transformations questions we get asked

How long does a full garden transformation take?

Two to four weeks on site for most gardens, plus two to four weeks of design beforehand. Larger plots with retaining structures or a garden room run to five or six weeks.

Do I need planning permission?

The landscaping itself normally does not. A raised terrace close to a boundary, a substantial outbuilding, or work near a protected tree can. We identify anything that needs consent at the survey, before you commit.

Can we live in the house while it happens?

Yes, that is normal. We agree a route in and out, protect it with boards, and keep it clear. Where access is through the house we sheet the floors and take the boots off, and where we can we work through a side gate instead.

What happens to everything that comes out?

Old paving, decking, sheds, fencing and spoil are removed and disposed of as part of the quote. Plants worth keeping are lifted and heeled in during the build, then replanted.

How much does a full garden transformation cost?

£15,000 to £40,000 covers most of what we build, with the design fee credited into it. The price is fixed in writing after the design stage, so there is no drift once the diggers are in.

Do you build pergolas as part of a transformation?

Yes. We design and build timber pergolas as part of the same programme, with posts on proper footings and the structure tied into the paving levels. Doing it while the ground is open is cheaper and cleaner than adding one later.

Do you offer a guarantee?

Yes on workmanship, with manufacturer warranties on materials, and we replace planting that fails in the first season where it has been watered as advised.
