A garden renovation or transformation is the whole garden rebuilt in one programme rather than in stages over five summers. It normally runs two to four weeks on site and it is the work we are set up for.
Doing it in one go is cheaper than doing it piecemeal. The excavator comes once, the spoil goes once, the levels are resolved as a whole, and the hard landscaping, paving and planting are designed to work together instead of being retrofitted around each other. We also build in the extras while the ground is open: garden rooms, pergolas, water features, tree planting and outdoor lighting.

What a garden renovation covers
Levels and structure
Retaining walls, steps and raised beds built by our own bricklayers, which is what makes a sloping garden usable.
Paving and hard surfaces
Porcelain or sandstone terraces, paths and stepping routes tied into the levels so nothing is an afterthought.
Lawn and planting
Topsoil brought in, borders shaped and planted to a plan, turf or seed, and evergreen structure so it holds up in winter.
Lighting and services
Low voltage lighting to steps, walls and specimen planting, plus power and water runs laid while the ground is open.
Pergolas
Freestanding or lean-to timber pergolas, sized to the terrace and built to take climbers. We set posts on proper footings and tie the structure into the paving levels so it looks part of the garden, not dropped in afterwards.
Garden structures and extras
Garden rooms, water features, tree planting and bespoke timber structures, designed into the scheme rather than bolted on afterwards.

FAQs
Garden transformations questions we get asked
How long does a full garden transformation take?
Two to four weeks on site for most gardens, plus two to four weeks of design beforehand. Larger plots with retaining structures or a garden room run to five or six weeks.
Do I need planning permission?
The landscaping itself normally does not. A raised terrace close to a boundary, a substantial outbuilding, or work near a protected tree can. We identify anything that needs consent at the survey, before you commit.
Can we live in the house while it happens?
Yes, that is normal. We agree a route in and out, protect it with boards, and keep it clear. Where access is through the house we sheet the floors and take the boots off, and where we can we work through a side gate instead.
What happens to everything that comes out?
Old paving, decking, sheds, fencing and spoil are removed and disposed of as part of the quote. Plants worth keeping are lifted and heeled in during the build, then replanted.
How much does a full garden transformation cost?
£15,000 to £40,000 covers most of what we build, with the design fee credited into it. The price is fixed in writing after the design stage, so there is no drift once the diggers are in.
Do you build pergolas as part of a transformation?
Yes. We design and build timber pergolas as part of the same programme, with posts on proper footings and the structure tied into the paving levels. Doing it while the ground is open is cheaper and cleaner than adding one later.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes on workmanship, with manufacturer warranties on materials, and we replace planting that fails in the first season where it has been watered as advised.
