Composite decking for Esher gardens
KT10 is a mix of period houses and later twentieth century detached stock, with noticeably larger plots on the roads off the High Street and around Esher Green. Those bigger gardens are where the full transformations happen: levels to resolve, a terrace big enough to be a room, and enough depth for real planting.
Esher is a short run from our yard in Thames Ditton and it is the town we work in most after our own. Deliveries get staged rather than dumped, which matters on roads where a lorry cannot sit for long.
The build
How we build it, Esher or anywhere else
The build is the same in every town: a level frame, capped boards, colour-matched fixings and a clean fascia. What changes is how the materials get in and whether the deck is raised, ground-level or wrapping around an extension.
We take levels and check access on the first visit, because those two things decide the price more than the board colour.
- Site survey and levels at your address
- Deck layout with board direction, steps and fascia details
- Removal of the old deck or surface
- Treated timber or aluminium sub-frame at the correct centres
- Composite boards fixed with colour-matched fasteners
- Fascia boards, edge trims and any steps or balustrade
- Full clear-up and the site left tidy
The full detail on materials, build-up and what a quote covers is on our composite decking page.

What we bring on site
Fencing and decking is a hand carried job. Panels, posts and boards come in on a van or a trailer and are walked through to the garden, so a Esher property with only a side gate or a hallway route is no problem. Post holes are dug by hand or with a petrol auger, and we mix small batches of postcrete on site rather than taking delivery of bulk aggregate.
Waste and parking
There is rarely a skip on a fencing or decking job. Old panels, concrete spurs and offcuts go straight back on the van and are taken to a licensed transfer station the same day. Where Esher has residents' parking we sort a visitor or trade permit with Elmbridge Borough Council before the first day so the van is close to the gate.

FAQs
Composite decking questions we get asked
How long does composite decking take to install?
A straightforward ground-level deck is usually three to five days. Add a couple of days if it is raised, has steps or a balustrade, or if the old deck has to be removed first.
Does composite decking need planning permission?
Usually no. Decking under 300mm above ground level and covering less than half the garden normally falls under permitted development. Raised decks that overlook a neighbour, or decks in front gardens, can need consent. We check at the site visit.
Is composite decking slippery?
Good quality capped composite has a slip-resistant grain and is generally less slippery than timber when wet. The main safety issue is usually the frame, not the surface, which is why we build it level and secure.
Can you build it over an existing patio?
Sometimes, if the existing base is sound and has a fall. More often we take the old surface out and build the frame from scratch so the deck drains properly and does not rock.
How much does composite decking cost?
Most composite decks we build land between £4,000 and £12,000. Size, height, frame choice and access move the number. Every price is fixed in writing after a site visit.
What guarantee do you offer?
Our workmanship is guaranteed and the boards carry their manufacturer warranty. Because our own crews build the frame and lay the boards, there is one company to come back to if anything needs attention.
